Ugly Prom Dresses

Lately I’ve been hooked on a TLC show that involves rather large and elaborate dresses, which got me thinking about upcoming prom and grad season. I started off looking up what the trends were in dresses this year and got sidetracked looking at some outrageous outfits that I just had to share. ENJOY!

I think she may have put this one on backwards

Dress and suit made completely out of duct tape - creative, but ugly

Not sure if this is a prom dress or a wedding dress??

This is one way of assuring he doesn't dance to closely

Do you have any prom dress regrets?

Deliver hope to needy children #Speroway

I recently heard about Speroway (formerly “Feed the Children Canada”) from another blogger.

If you are not familiar with Speroway, they are an international non-profit relief organization that partners with Canadians to responds to the basic needs of children and families around the world. They achieve this by providing food, medicine, education and other life essentials. "Delivering hope to needy children”, is their motto.

Right now they have a fantastic contest going on where you could win the following prizes:
  • An iPad
  • $500 Way Spa package for two
  • 4 Cineplex Night Out gift packs
  • 2 Big Kaboodle Combo Gift Certificates from Mabel’s Labels
ENTER TODAY! For full contest rules visit the Speroway site.

WHY THE CONTEST?

Speroway has created this contest to help generate awareness of their cause, let you all know about their new name, new site and new Facebook page.

WHAT CAN I DO?

Right now Speroway is building a medical clinic in Haiti and they require donations to see it through. You can donate online via their site.

You can also help spread the word by entering the contest and sharing the good things Speroway does with all your friends.

WHAT OTHER PROGRAMS IS SPEROWAY INVOLVED IN?

  • FEED-A-CHILD - Look into the face of a hungry child and you’ll see a child with real hopes, real fears, and a very real need to eat. From areas devastated by natural disasters to countries caught in the grip of poverty, countless hungry children need help!
  • CHILD CHAMPIONS ~ Reach into the life of a child through our child sponsorship program and become a “Child Champion”. You can impact a child’s life forever. Every child deserves basic necessities like food, medical care, and education. Changing a child’s future – can you think of anything more important?
  • MEDICAL TEAM ~ We seek your continued support for our medical teams. This program provides medicines and vitamins in its mobile clinics, along with food and other supplies. Assistance is also required in shipping containers of food, medicines and other life-saving essentials to overseas locations.
  • FIRST NATIONS ~  High unemployment rates and an extremely high cost of living results in First Nations communities in Northern Canada living in poverty. This can be unreasonably difficult for First Nation children who simply want to have a good meal everyday.
  • ABANDONED BABY CENTER ~ A baby’s feverish eyes show the suffering. Ragged breath points to pneumonia, tuberculosis or worse. The agony of slow starvation is heartbreaking, and every day babies like this are orphaned or abandoned in Kenya. They are innocent victims and their needs are urgent!
  • FOOD DROPS ~ We gather food from over 110 procurement partners and other generous groups and put together a 25+ pound box of food – enough to provide a child a meal a day for 7 days. Food drops are a tangible way to put our mission into action and to provide a helping hand to people in communities across Canada.
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS ~ You can make a difference for hungry children by organizing a Special Project Fundraiser. These projects are a fun and fulfilling way to take a stand against hunger.

This is a sponsored post. I’ve been compensated for my time and space on my blog. I am not administering the contest and am not affiliated with Speroway. As always, all opinions are my own.

Spring Cleaning and the Stinky Pillow - #HealthyFamilies

In addition to spring-cleaning I like to mix things up when we move from dull, dark winter to bright and cheery spring. I like to move furniture around, bring in some new plants and just give every room a fresh look.

My sweet pup Roxy has claimed our sofa pillows as her own. She is cute and cuddly, but not always the freshest smelling of pups.

Healthy-er Cookie Recipe

A friend of mine recently gave me a recipe for healthy chocolate chip cookies.

The reason I say health-er is that these do use Coconut Oil, which is high in saturated fats. The debate is still out on whether or not this is bad for you, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide. I received a jar of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil and it was perfect timing so I could test it out in this recipe.

If you LOVE soft chewy cookies, give this yummy, egg and flour free, recipe a try:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Ingredients
  • 3 ripe mashed bananas
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil – mine needed to be heated to make it more liquid form
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 2/3 cup almond meal – picked this up at the bulk food store, it is a bit pricey
  • 1/3 cup shredded and unsweetened coconut
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chunks or chips. I bought regular and find it a bit sweet, so would switch to dark chocolate next time
You’ll need two bowls 1 large and 1 medium

  • Combine the mashed banana, vanilla and coconut oil in the larger bowl
  • In the medium bowl mix together oats, shredded coconut, almond meal, salt, baking powder and cinnamon.
  • Once combined add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture and stir.
  • Now add your chocolate chips/chunks.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and drop dough an inch apart on the cookie sheet.
  • Bake for appox 15 minutes.
They cookies weren’t as solid as others I have made, but once they cooled they seemed to bind together even more and are just as chewy the day after.

I would love to know your favorite health-er cookie recipe, please share below!
